Tech Tip #3 - Wikispaces.com by Mallory Newcomer

Wikispaces.com

What is a Wikispace?

A Wikispace is a webpage that can be shared between and edited by a group of people.

How does a Wikispace work?

It is a webpage that is basically turned into a document when people edit it. Multiple people may see and make changes to it as long as they are a part of the Wiki.

Pros
  • Secure
  • Organized
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Only one person can edit at a time, so if a group member doesn’t save or get out of the “edit” section, no one can make changes.
  • Students may post inappropriate content
  • Must have internet in order to use Wikispace

How it can be used in the classroom

This can be used for brainstorming, group projects and group papers. Also, a Wikispace can be used for online classes or classes that don’t meet often, such as those that meet once a week or less.

Review of other similar technologies
